Wendy makes space!

Life is amazing, exciting and full of change . Have been feeling for quite a while now that I need to have a break from teaching to concentrate fully on my own work. As you all know I love teaching and I love my students ,so this is a difficult decision but also not so hard because I know it really is  time .

So I have decided.

I am ceasing monthly teaching in my studio from my July 2013 classes.I will still be teaching  for Toowoomba Spinners and Weavers in August and in Noosa in September .

I will also still be teaching for Koala Conventions and my cruise class in 2014.  My guest Tutor classes will stay the same.

So wish me well….I  will  keep you up to date with my work through my blog as always! I am making space and making a slight change of direction for a bit.I do not know what is around the corner but I know intuitively I need to make the  space  and see what comes. It is exciting and it’s a little scary. Wish me luck !!

Back from ” The Centre”

Just back from Central Australia! What an experience, walking ,walking, climbing and more walking….and a bit of eucalypt dyeing ! Murray and I were mistaken for serious mountain climbers much to our amusement!!! Did a lot for my self concept ! I am going to put the photos of our big climbs on the fridge to remind me of what it feels like to exert yourself . Amazingly good, i.e. after you get your breath again and realise you didn’t die in the process.

10 days in the “wilderness” in our little campervan. Now I have 150 emails to sort through- but it was worth it …so many beautiful colours and textures . I  had to buy a crock pot to do some dyeing in the camper… it was on special for $15 and I could leave it simmer all night-made the camper smell cosy and stewy with onion skins and eucalyptus-my husband just rolled his eyes!! There was  Eucalyptus Cineria growing  EVERYWHERE so I just had to dye .There were no second hand saucepans or, metal pots in Alice Springs op shops and I looked everywhere…seems they are at a premium there .

My lovely  son just moved out so a new crock pot will be handy for him.My big news is I am now officially an empty nester! Woo hoo!  Am I supposed to be this excited? A new phase in life begins.

Some more photos and Monet!

Nothing like a huge project for a beginner feltmaker! Wendy Wilson came to me for three days of classes for a special class to construct a monet style wallhanging…We had a ball. What a learning curve!I think she did a wonderful job.Andy came and helped with tweaking the design and then rolled it…A big effort

Have had a lovely time doing a wedding dress with my lovely friend Lucinda. We did the dress together and she got married last Saturday. She looked amazing and the dress was really beautiful on her! We rubbed it to fit on her body and so it was just the perfect shape-felt is a wonderful thing! Fibre Fest has come and gone. My piece “Hundertwasser Again”  tied as the Peoples Choice Award which was lovely. It is about 2.2 meters long!

From 1 to 3 March 2013, Qld Spinners Weavers & Fibre Artists Ltd,
biennial  exhibition will again be celebrating excellence in all fibre arts.

While the diverse techniques on display are based in tradition, the directions contemporary artists take them in are anything but old fashioned.
Spinning, weaving, dyeing, felting, knitting, crochet, braiding, basketry,
papermaking and bookmaking – they’re all represented and you’ve never seen
anything like them before.

In addition to the exhibition there will be a gallery shop and
demonstrations catering to all ages with activities for the younger visitors.

7pm Friday 1 March 2013 Event will be opened by ABC Weather Reporter, Jenny Woodward.

2.30pm Saturday 2 March Dr John Hains will be speaking about the making of his Turkish style carpet celebrating his rural property “Tolderodin” (known locally as “Running Creek”)

The quick version: He made the Spinning wheel, spun the wool, dyed the wool, designed the carpet, started weaving it …. then his 3 yr old grandson cut the Warp threads …. you’ll have to come to his talk to hear the rest.11-1 Sat & Sun Joan Apthorp will be showing our younger visitors how to spin their own piece of yarn to make a bookmark. It may be wool or it may be something very different!

Further details can be found at:  qldspinners.org.au or by contacting fibrefest@qldspinners.org.au

I will be demonstrating felting at Fibre Fest on Saturday at 12.30-4.30
