Wild Things Exhibition
Pop the date in your diary now!
For the past three years local Samford felt maker Wendy Bailye has been working with Mixed Media artist Sharyn Hall combining their skills to further each other’s artistic development. This has been a very rewarding continuing collaboration.
Textiles in all their forms will be exhibited over three days and there will be lots of unique handmade items to buy. It will be a feast for the senses.
Expect plenty of smaller items that will make fantastic Christmas gifts; brooches, bags, large and small art for the wall, handmade embroidered boxes, handmade cards and exquisite machine embroideries. There will be a variety of hand felted and hand dyed wraps and scarves . This year there will be a new range of Wendy’s men’s and women’s felted slippers , baby booties and stylish hot water bottle covers. Sharyn’s hand dyed fabrics , embroideries and mixed media works will be a highlight as usual. It has been a busy year for Wendy ,she has just released nationally and internationally her first instructional DVD called Felting with Fabrics which passes on techniques she has developed for well over 15 years. It is available from her website or from the exhibition. Sharyn also has produced a book on dyeing techniques which is an accumulation of her many years of experience dyeing and manipulating bespoke fabrics-if you enjoy colour and texture this is a must have! Expect a dose of quirkiness, priceless individuality, bold colours and amazing textures and techniques! It is here you will find truly unique Christmas presents all with that little bit of hand crafted eccentricity.
The exhibition is the same weekend as the Wood Turners Exhibition at Mt Coot-tha
Auditorium as well, so make a day of it!

What an Adventure!

Well I have been in five states of Australia in three weeks .Starting in Brisbane I traveled to  teach in Melbourne and then off to Sydney to stay at my friend Rachels who lives near Cowra . Then off on the Indian Pacific Train across the Nullarbor Plain-the longest straight stretch of railway in the world ,through South Australia and ending in Western Australia for a feltmaking convergence that I was tutoring at and participating in.What an adventure!I have come home inspired and excited to get into the studio. What a fantastic three weeks! There will  be pictures coming and yes the DVD is finally here.I will be posting details on the website ASAP and setting up a shopping cart to make it easy to purchase.

When I have caught my breath I will post some photos.

Whilst away my son broke both bones in his leg playing soccer and had to have surgery so there was a more than a little drama in the middle…but he is recovering well thanks to a titanium rod that is now bolted to his lower leg and he is very pleased to have his Mum home! Kids!

Wild Flowers on the Nullarbor.

Rachel and I spent some time in the studio dyeing .A big pot of black dye and lots of  wrapping and clamping.Really happy with the results.Rachel played with some jewellery techniques and successfully managed to felt hard balls on the ends of dreadlocks. A medal is deserved -it is a difficult technique. The scenic photo above is the paddock here Rachel agists some of  her goats. The property is near Cowra NSW.Spent a lovely four days on the farm. The little lamb above was sickly after some very cold weather and hail.It spent a day by the fire but unfortunately died later that day.Life on a farm can be very difficult and it made me appreciate just how hard farm life is.Contending with foxes and rabbits and feral goats ,drought and rain and hail , stock loss and caring for sick animals all part and parcel of farm life.Fortunately the wide open spaces and beautiful sunsets, the charms of life in the country ,the peace and quiet and wonderful native wildlife more than makes up for the difficulties.

September blog – DVD News and Slippers Lasts at Last!

DVD Project - Silk Lily

DVD Project – Wool Wrap
DVD Project –  Muslin Wrap

These are the projects that are featured on my new DVD coming soon!  The DVD will be $35.00 AUD

Well it is nearly September and my last classes for the year are nearly here! There are still a couple of spaces left on Sunday (Fathers Day).

I have finally recieved my order of shoe lasts please click on the link here to view details.  STYROFOAM SHOE LASTS AVAILABLE    I will put some photos of my new slippers I made for me up soon. The style of slipper made on the lasts are similar to Nicola’s lovely slippers pictured on the  left.

Today I finished the filming of my new DVD Felting with Fabrics, yippee! It will be available in about three weeks all going to plan. There are three projects featured -Silk felted flower,Muslin Wrap and Wool wrap all utilizing fabrics in their process. It will be like having a workshop in your loungeroom-except there is no yummy shared lunch!  If you would like to pre -order a copy please email me.

The bloopers are my favourite part though, you will only see the “G rated” version -I said a lot of very, very rude words during filming. One of the main problems of the day was the bird noises in the background. Because I live in the country it was quite challenging! Today the bird noises were screeching white cockatoo’s but we have had kookaburras and crows and noisy miners as well as very noisy butcher birds. So if you are listening to my DVD and there is/was a screeching noise you will know what it is!!

Classes for September

Last classes for the year!

Thursday September 1st , Friday 2nd,  Sat 3rd, Sun 4th.Please note the 4th is Fathers Day so plan your celebrations for the evening! Saturday class is booked out but plenty of spaces are available in the other classes.

As it is the last class for the year I will be baking a special cake for each day… so only bring  savoury finger food to share for lunch.

I will be posting new dates for 2012 early next year. There will be some exciting new classes! Think big thick rugs, garments, matching baby booties and hat , 3d flower slippers, 3d Flower bags…..

With the end of the year looming I have finally got around to producing some nice gift certificates that can be purchased for gifts .They can be spent on either a felt class or materials for felting (don’t forget to tell the family!) – great for Christmas, birthdays etc. And don’t forget that a felt class is a perfect Baby Shower/Hens night activity. In the past we have made some gorgeous collaborative baby blankets and pictures. A nice thick felt rug is another possibility….

If you get a group of friends together I am happy to hold a special class in my break season anytime from September till March. There is a minimum of 6 people and usual class rates apply. It is fun to get a group of friends together. Just remember it is HOT and we can’t have fans on until everyone’s work is wet down!!Under the house is a nice cool area though compared to most places as the temperature rises!
