“FELT BAGS” 3 Day Intensive Felt and Sew!      

Come and make your own perfect bag. Do you like  texture, color, big, small, busy, simple, soft or all? This is perfect, to design and create a bag tailor made by you for you.

Bringing exciting lining fabric for inspiration helps kick off this three-day journey, which will encompass a range of textured felt layouts, felting techniques and then bag construction and embellishment. Over the span of three days participants will design and make their own felt fabric, then select one of myfanwy’s bag patterns to create. New and experienced felt makers and sewers are welcome in this workshop, which has the ability to cater for various skill levels.Some of the skills covered will be lining bags,using leather,closures and zips, pockets,creating texture,design and pattern ideas.SO much to learn!

Well no rest for the wicked.Two days after Vilte’s workshop off I trundled to Melbourne to teach with Victorian Feltmakers(hats and slippers) and then a class at Precious Purl in Fitzroy(3d Cushions).Below are some photos from my trip.Had a perfect time.Lovely students and made me feel very welcome!I particularly love our slippers-they are always so much fun to teach!

Some lovely new felt in black and white to inspire you and my finished pieces from Lizzies workshop. Vilte arrives in two sleeps! I have been washing wool and mohair and suri alpaca and having a jolly,smelly, woolly time! Often using processed merino wool means you miss out on the joy of cleaning and playing with greasy raw wool.It is very,very special.I think we take wool for granted!

The studio is all finished, bought the last trestle tables and a few chairs and we are all ready!

Don’t forget the two really exciting workshops coming up still have  some spaces left .Myfanwy’s bag intensive in June  and Pam de Groot’s two workshops in August . Details are in the workshop section on this website. Both Myf and Pam have taught overseas and are very respected felt makers. We are so lucky to have them come to Brisbane and particularly to the Felt Studio. My usual monthly classes have spaces for May /June and July. My teaching year ends in October -it is already April so be quick!

This year I am doing three textile courses  for my own professional development and for fun! One with Lizzie Houghton,one with Lisa Klakulak (Felt and machine embroidery)and one with Dorothy Caldwell(Stitching).I have also just completed a screenprinting and collagraph workshop with Nancy Brown.This helps to keep the creative juices flowing!  It has been a few years since I did a workshop myself and it is such a treat .

There are ten of us all having a wow of a time making felt and enjoying learning some new techniques.Here are some photos of some of the work and Pam  wearing one of  Lizzie’s gorgeous jackets .We are working in a very textural way and Lizzie has been a very inspirational teacher and has shared so many of her techniques with us for which we are very grateful. Thanks Lizzie!

There are still limited spaces in Myfanwy’s Bag class and Pam de Groot’s dyeing worksops . Pams work was just featured in a German Felting Magazine ! Don’t forget I hold classes monthly at the Samford studio as well!  You can also book in for three days of the month and do an intensive feltly few days.One complete item per day.There are lovely places to stay as we live in the country (See sidebar!)- students are travelling and making a treat of it.Massage,mud wraps spa and felting !!

Next lot are in May  we don’t have a studio class in April as Vilte is here so classes are booking fast.

Murray deserves a medal !From this to a fully functional almost finished space in just over four weeks ! Compared to the grubby old garage  I feel like I am in heaven! The new windows and doors are just lovely and open up the whole area.

The newly renovated Felt Studio is now fully functional!

Above is the first piece of felt for the year…a sample for my class next year at Koala Conventions.

The Studio sale went really well and we are glad it is over so that we can get on with things in a less cluttered manner.Thank you to everyone who came !We were so glad the rain cleared.

FELT CLASSES  have vacancies this week  on each day Friday ,Saturday and Sunday so if you have been meaning to come and do a felt class let me know and I shall book you in. The Studio is gorgeous and today I am going to make felt in it! There are no standard classes in April only Vilte’s classes-our special guest tutor all the way from Lithuania. So if you want to do a class before May now is the time to book.
